When a message is sent via a bulk SMS service provider panel, it gets delivered with a Sender ID. Sender ID is a combination of six letters that depicts the information about message sender and its location. It can be customized according to your company name. You can create a Sender ID that represents your company name.

The rules of creating Sender ID has been changed with the introduction of DLT guidelines. Earlier Sender ID can be created on your bulk SMS panel. But with the enforcement of the TRAI regulations, it has to be completed on the DLT platform.

New TRAI DLT rules for Sender ID

TRAI has made DLT registration mandatory for every business entity who wants to send bulk SMS to the customers. Entities who have not registered on any DLT platform will not be able to send messages to their customers. Registration can be done in any one DLT platform – Jio, Vodafone, Airtel, Tata teleservices, BSNL, MTNL, Videocon.

Once the entity is registered, the request for Sender ID can be submitted on the DLT platform. As per new rules, Sender ID is now called as Header.

Header for messages sent via Promotional route will be of six numeric digits and that of Service category route will be of six alphabetic characters. The header names are case-sensitive.

You can submit Header registration request by selecting the Header type, category and entering the six letter Header name based on your company name. After submission, an email will be sent stating that header registration request is received and it is being verified. As soon as the verification gets completed, Header will be approved in your account. You can check the Header status on the Header section under registered, pending, rejected tabs.

Once the header is registered, you can register your content template. Make sure to select the header at the time of registering template.

Add the approved DLT details into your bulk SMS panel to start sending SMS. Login to your panel, select the registered header, enter the contact numbers and select the template. Click on send to send bulk SMS messages with your company name.
